Come Rain or Shine… Carpe Diem

Some workout days are undeniably amazing. You wake up rested and ready for the day. You have a healthy, balanced breakfast as you read the weather report, “High of 75, low of 75… fantastic”. You leave for the gym with time to spare. You turn on the radio and your favorite song has just begun. You cruise through every green light while magically hitting every note of that song as if you’re Rihanna herself, “WE FOUND LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLAAACE!”. Your favorite parking spot is waiting eagerly for your car. You walk into the gym, as if in slow motion, a bounce in your step, arms swinging, swagger swaggering. Your favorite treadmill is the only one left and its allll yours. You’re light on your feet. Your lungs feel big and strong. People passing by think, “Damn… She’s hot!”

Yep, sometimes everything goes exactly our way…

Other times…

You wake up feeling like you got hit be one of those giant, lifted, trucks that take up four parking spots at the gym. You’re already running late, after taking an extra two minutes to swing just one of your legs out of bed. You fumble around for your I-didn’t-have-time-to-do-laundry-so-this-will-just-have-to-do gym outfit. You rush out the door, breakfast-less. You hit every red light on the way to the gym, the entire time thinking, “Does the radio even play music anymore? I just heard five radio ads for the very truck that I dreamt ran over me last night!”. You pull up to the gym, circle the parking lot for five minutes, then park a mile away at Fresh ‘n Easy. After your warm-up walk to the gym you realize you left your iPod in the car, which you’ll soon discover, after you run back to retrieve it, that its dead. Every treadmill is occupied. Every stair mill is occupied. You settle for a stationary bike, and instantly realize why cyclists wear padded shorts. People walking by, watching you fidget uncomfortably, think, “Damn… This girl is one hot mess!”

Yep… other days… not so much…

Good days, bad days, blah days… doesn’t matter…

Carpe the shit out of every diem…

Sometimes weathering the storm is the only think that allows us to truly bask in the sunshine.

Yours in health, happiness, rain, and sunshine,

Verity Somers
